REAL Review

From Ocean Rodeo

Coming straight off the back of the Crave HL-Series kites’ incredible success, it was a no-brainer that our wings would bypass a traditional, industry-standard Dacron build and instead utilize the innovative Hybrid Light system.

Strategically placed ALUULA composite materials are blended with Dacron to create this new hybrid construction class that delivers an impressive decrease in weight with improved airframe response. ALUULA has been inserted into key overlays and reinforcements throughout the wing, while the strut is composed entirely from ALUULA composite material. The full ALUULA strut reduces airframe flex while keeping the centre of gravity forward, resulting in superior handling.

Every Ocean Rodeo Glide wing is fitted with our interchangeable Matrix handle system. Wings come with the Matrix handles pre-installed, yet allow the rider to customize handles and positions at their preference.

With the HL-Series wings, we didn’t just stop with the implementation of ALUULA... Every single seam and component was reviewed and precision tuned. If any weight savings could be found, we addressed them, while at the same time maintaining our 20-year legacy of producing “Built Tough” products.

Great Wing for surf

Intermediate winger but advanced surf foiler and kiter. Almost exclusively wing waves. Never jump.
Only ridden Duotones before this. 75L fanatic board. I weigh 75-80kg.

Great wing. Feels incredibly light and everyone who holds it says the same. Flies excellent. 5m solid for low teens to upper 20s. Windows are awesome and perfectly positioned. Handles are great once you remove the middle and stretch the outsides, excited for carbon hard handle add-on.

It's a wing so they are all pretty decent once you are up on foil cruising, where this wing shines is when on waves flagged out. It absolutely DISAPPEARS and becomes a feather in the wind, you can basically forget it and just cruise like a king.

The full aluula is probably even better!

First impression was better than expected

This wing is really light. The 5m Glide Hybrid is 4.4 lbs which is a pound less than most wings of this size. If it holds up to hours of abuse and use it will be legit. Time will have to tell on durability but from the Alula kites we have, they do not have any durability issues.

The strut is very skinny compared to most. You pump it to 12 psi which is a lot and the thing is rock solid. The frame is Dacron and pumps to 7 psi.

The frame and feel is very light and solid when pumped up. It doesn't flex that much when you are getting on to foil which was surprising. The draft seems pretty flat and this wing was fast. It goes upwind well but it feels overall fast when you are cranking around on it.

Luffing out seemed pretty good. It was stable and pretty easy to ride waves with. The wing span is kind of wide for a 5m because of the flatter profile so I did catch the wing tip while riding twice and luffing once and it was hard to flip back over while still on foil.

I think that the handles can be improved. They were more comfortable than expected and you can move your hands forward or backward on them for more or less power. They are connected by secure Velcro straps so they can be removed, I think this is a weak point and makes the handles have a mushier fell than necessary. Stiffer handle connection would lead to more control so I think they missed the mark here.

Overall a great wing that had a really impressive first few sessions.
