Harnesses

Start with the specific model’s size guide, and follow its measurement instructions. Harness sizing isn’t interchangeable between brands: the Manera Halo guide uses waist circumference and waist width, while the Ride Engine Elite Type 1 guide specifies a measurement around your belly button.

Tell us whether you ride in boardshorts or a wetsuit, especially if you’re between sizes. Our harness buying guide puts fit and body shape ahead of price. Talk with us if you need help choosing both the harness and spreader-bar size.

A seat harness puts the pull lower on your body and helps keep the hook from riding up. That can be useful while learning. A waist harness leaves more freedom around your hips, with different models balancing support and flexibility. Our harness buying guide explains the tradeoffs.

Compare the fit as well as the style. The Ride Engine Point combines a supported seat with adjustable leg loops, while the Mystic Warrior offers a softer waist-harness design. Choose the one that suits your body and the way you ride.

Start with the fit and adjustment, but remember that stance and kite position matter too. Our guide to harness ride-up gathers advice from the coaching team and makes the point that the harness itself isn’t always the whole problem.

If yours keeps moving, talk with us about its size, shape and how you ride. A seat harness can be worth comparing if a waist harness doesn’t suit your body. A more expensive or stiffer harness alone isn’t a guarantee that it will stay in place.

Hard-shell designs focus on holding their shape under kite load. Softer designs allow more flex, so compare how much support and freedom of movement you want. The Mystic Warrior is designed for riders who prefer the freedom of a softshell without committing to a hardshell.

There’s more to the choice than a shell label. In our Manera Halo review, Matt describes a harness with some torsional flex that doesn’t collapse when loaded. Use the model details and fit to narrow your choice, rather than assuming the stiffest option is right for everyone.

The main difference is shell stiffness. The Elite Carbon Type 1 uses Ride Engine’s 12K carbon Step-2 shell for its stiffest flex. The Elite Type 2 uses a composite Step-2 shell with more torsional flex for a freer feel.

Both include a Hyperlock spreader bar and use ratchets in place of the traditional webbing connection. Compare Type 1 if you want the firmer option, and Type 2 if you want more twist and mobility. Check the size guide and fit before choosing.

Choose around your riding style. The Mystic Stealth Kite Hook bar uses a traditional stainless-steel hook for freestyle riding. The Stealth Surf Slider bar is designed for surf and freeride, with a sliding rope and a shorter central rope option.

For a Hyperlock setup, the Ride Engine Rope Conversion Kit is designed to add freedom for directional changes, toeside riding and foiling. Match the bar or conversion kit to your exact harness system and size; we can help confirm the pairing.

Check the exact harness model, closure system and bar size before reusing it. A brand name alone doesn’t confirm a match. The Hyperlock replacement spreader bar, for example, is made to work with Hyperlock ratchets.

Browse harness accessories for the correct parts, or send us your harness and spreader-bar model so we can help confirm the pairing. Treat the harness and bar as one setup when choosing fit.

It depends on the model, so check what’s included before ordering. The Manera Halo lists an ARC spreader bar with hook and rope, plus a safety knife. The Ride Engine Elite Type 1 includes a spreader bar, with the knife sold separately.

The Mystic Stealth Women’s harness lists the spreader bar and safety knife as separate purchases, while the Mystic Warrior includes an Ace spreader bar. A knife pocket doesn’t necessarily mean a knife is included.

The cut and proportions can differ, so compare how the harness fits your waist, hips and legs. The Mystic Stealth Women’s harness has a more rounded shape in the smaller sizes. The Ride Engine Point Women’s seat harness uses patterns and fittings tailored around the hips and leg loops.

Our women’s harness guide also emphasizes measurements and what you’ll wear underneath. Explore women’s harnesses and use the specific model’s size guide rather than assuming the same letter size will fit across brands.
