Shop Lost surfboards by Matt “Mayhem” Biolos, from small-wave grovelers and performance fish to shortboards and midlengths. Choose a design for the waves you surf most, then compare volume, dimensions, construction and fin setup.

For small, weak waves, start with the Original Puddle Jumper ’25 or the forgiving LayZToy II. Compare the RNF ’96 and Pisces for two different takes on a performance fish.

For performance shortboard surfing, explore the Driver 3.0 and Formula-1. If easier paddling is a priority, compare the Big Rig Driver, which keeps a performance-shortboard focus, with the added midlength glide of the California Mid.

Read our Big 3 sizing guide to work through design, volume and dimensions in that order. Use each model’s review and the individual board’s specifications to compare your options, or ask a REAL Pro for help matching a board to your ability, local waves and the boards you already ride.

    Frequently asked questions

Are Lost and Mayhem surfboards the same brand?

Yes. Matt “Mayhem” Biolos is the shaper behind …Lost Surfboards. “Lost” and “Mayhem” refer to the same surfboard family, rather than two separate brands.

Which Lost surfboard should I choose for small, weak waves?

The Original Puddle Jumper ’25 is a strong starting point for groveling: its wide outline and concave bottom help generate speed in smaller surf. If you prioritize easy wave catching and a forgiving ride, also consider the LayZToy II, whose flatter rocker and wide sweet spot make it less demanding about foot placement.

What’s the difference between the Lost RNF ’96 and Pisces?

Both are performance fishes. The Pisces refines the RNF concept with a more pulled-in nose and a more performance-oriented feel. In our review, Cory Lopez favors it for aggressive surfing and waves with some punch; surfers seeking a fuller outline should also compare the RNF ’96.

Should I add volume when buying a Lost fish or small-wave board?

Not automatically. Start with the design, then volume and dimensions, as explained in our Big 3 sizing guide. A matching liter number alone does not make two different designs ride the same.

In our Pisces review, Cory Lopez stays close to his normal shortboard volume to preserve control through turns. The LayZToy II offers more sizing flexibility, and Trip Forman explains that sizing up can improve paddling and wave catching. Choose volume for the model and your goals rather than applying one rule to every Lost board.

How do PU/Poly, Black Sheep, and Light Speed 2 constructions feel different?

PU/Poly provides the traditional baseline feel. In our Puddle Jumper ’25 review, Matt Biolos describes Black Sheep as lightweight, responsive, and precise, while Light Speed 2 offers a more forgiving, damped feel. Construction changes how a board responds, so compare the options available for your chosen model.

Should I ride my Lost board as a thruster or quad?

The best setup depends on the model, its size, and how you want it to surf. For the Puddle Jumper ’25, Matt Biolos prefers quads when riding it around his height for a loose, gliding feel, and notes that riders on shorter sizes use thrusters for more drive. Check your particular board’s fin-box layout and fin system before choosing fins.

Which Lost shortboard should I choose for everyday waves versus better surf?

Compare the Driver 3.0 and Formula-1 for performance shortboard surfing. In our Formula-1 review, Cose Stoyanoff describes the Driver 3.0 as his more all-around choice for beach breaks and contests, while he favors his Formula-1 round tail for point breaks and punchier waves. Compare those roles with your usual waves, ability and preferred tail shape before choosing a size. For small, weak surf, also look at the Original Puddle Jumper ’25.

Which Lost boards should I consider for easier paddling?

Look at the Big Rig Driver if you want to stay on a performance shortboard. In our Big Rig review, Matt Biolos describes a lower entry rocker and foam carried forward for easier paddling, along with a wider turning sweet spot that is less demanding about foot placement.

For more midlength glide, compare the California Mid. In our California Mid review, Matt describes the added paddle power of its longer outline, with a deep concave and wing swallow to keep it lively through smaller waves. Choose the design that matches how you want to surf, then work through volume and dimensions.

Do Lost surfboards come with fins, and which fins will fit?

Don’t assume fins are included. Check the individual board’s specifications and included-equipment notes before ordering. Match your fins to its listed fin system and fin setup; the FCS II and Futures filters can help narrow the boards. Our fin buying guide starts with fin-box compatibility before fin size, template and construction.
