Build a foiling setup for the way you ride. Shop hydrofoils, foilboards and inflatable wings for wing, surf and kite foiling. Start with a complete foiling package or compare components for your next upgrade.

Explore parawings, power assist and eFoils, plus foil accessories to complete your setup. Read our first-foil buying guide or ask us for help matching gear to your experience and conditions.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I choose my first hydrofoil?

Start with the sport you want to do most, your experience and your budget. Then think about the other foiling sports you may want to try. A kite foil and a wing foil don’t necessarily need the same front wing, even if they use the same system. Choose a system with suitable options for your riding now and room to progress. Our first-foil buying guide walks through those questions. Browse foils or ask us to help narrow the choice before you commit.

What gear should I buy to learn wing foiling?

Think of the foilboard, hydrofoil and inflatable wing as one setup. The goal is stability and controllable takeoffs, rather than buying the smallest board you can stand on. In our wing foiling progression guide, Brendan explains why a larger board and a foil that lifts at lower speed make learning easier. The right sizes still depend on the rider and wind. Our complete foiling packages are a useful place to compare setups; check each package’s included items before ordering.

How much volume do I need in a foilboard?

There isn’t one number that works for every rider or every foiling sport. For winging, a larger board gives you more stability while learning starts and riding on foil. For prone surf foiling, paddling ability and surfing experience matter too. Our surf foil progression guide explains why someone new to both surfing and foiling needs a different starting board from an experienced surfer. Compare the design and volume of the foilboards you’re considering, then ask us to match the size to your experience and conditions.

What size front foil wing should I choose?

Start with the rider, the sport and the conditions—not just the area printed on the wing. Your weight and ability affect the choice, and a foil for powered kite riding can be very different from one for learning to wing. The front wing provides the main lift, but its shape and intended use matter alongside its size. Our first-foil guide and wing progression guide explain how to narrow it down. Use the guidance for the specific model rather than applying one size rule across every foil.

Is a high-aspect foil always better than a mid-aspect foil?

No. Choose the feel and performance you need. In our MA MKII wind-sports review, Matt and Brandon compare the Armstrong MA MKII with HA foils: the MA gives up some pump and glide in exchange for controlled carving, a broad speed range and forgiving recovery after a breach. They still reach for HA in lighter wind. That’s a comparison of those models, not a rule for every brand. More aspect ratio doesn’t automatically mean a better foil for your session.

What mast length should I choose for foiling?

Match the mast to your riding conditions and the water depth where you’ll use it. A shorter mast keeps you closer to the surface and can make learning more manageable, but gives you less clearance through chop. A longer mast gives more room to ride through waves and bumps without breaching, with more leverage to control. Our foil anatomy guide explains the tradeoff. Don’t choose length in isolation—consider your experience, local depth and the rest of the setup.

How do the tail wing and fuselage change the way a foil rides?

They can change the feel a lot. A longer fuselage generally adds stability, while a shorter one allows quicker turning. A larger tail wing generally gives more stability and low-speed lift; a smaller tail can add speed and maneuverability. Those changes are useful only if they suit your riding and fit your system. Our foil anatomy guide explains what each part does, and our surf foil progression guide covers tail changes as one way to progress without immediately replacing the whole setup.

Can I mix foil wings, masts and fuselages from different systems?

Don’t assume they fit because the brand name or the size looks right. Check the connection and compatibility of every part before buying an upgrade. Our Armstrong A+ package builder and Armstrong Alloy package builder each show components checked for that particular package. That doesn’t make every part from every system interchangeable. If you already own gear, ask us to check your exact mast, fuselage, front wing and tail before you add a new component.

When should I move to a smaller foilboard or front wing?

When your current setup is helping you ride consistently and you know what you want to change. For wing foiling, our progression guide starts with stable rides in both directions and learning to gybe. Adding different inflatable wing sizes can expand your wind range before you move to a smaller board or front foil wing. For surf foiling, our surf progression guide also discusses tail changes and smaller foils. You don’t have to shrink every part at once, and your learning setup may still be useful in lighter conditions.

What should I compare when buying an eFoil?

Start with who will ride it and the kind of riding they want to do. Then compare board size, battery weight and run time, and construction. In our Fliteboard buying review, Matt explains why chasing the smallest board can make learning harder, and why a larger battery’s extra run time comes with extra weight to carry. Browse eFoils and check the specifications and included components for the exact package. If several people will share it, ask us to help choose a setup that suits the group.
