Show video transcript
Transcript (edited for clarity)

Trip Forman: Welcome to the REAL Board Loft. I'm Trip Forman, and we are actually not in the REAL Board Loft today. We're in Del Mar, California, at the Boardroom Show. First head-turner in the show is the new Pyzel Phantom 2, and we have TJ Metcalf from Pyzel Surfboards. TJ, what's up, dude?

TJ Metcalf: Morning.

Trip Forman: Good to see you. Good morning. You're actually one of the Score Lord masters, with a lot of the Score Lord content coming out. But why is the Phantom 2 a head-turner? Phantom's been one of our bestselling Pyzels through the course of the relationship between REAL and Pyzel. To see that you're coming out with an even better one, an updated Phantom, is pretty sick. TJ, tell us what's going on with the Phantom 2 and what you've changed compared to the original.

TJ Metcalf: All right. The new Phantom 2 has the same contours on the bottom that the old one did. But some of the new things this board has are a little bit more flip in the nose, a tad bit more, just like 12 inches up. It's got a little hip in the tail.

Trip Forman: Right there, yeah.

TJ Metcalf: Yeah, compared to the other one, which didn't. And then a little bit less nose area, so about an eighth difference from the other one. A little bit more shortboard influence, not full shortboard. It still has all the good stuff: really easy to ride, really easy to paddle, but just a little bit more performance aspect added to it.

Trip Forman: Okay.

TJ Metcalf: And with this one, John John's actually riding this board, which the previous one he wasn't. That's another cool thing. If John John likes it, I think everybody's going to like it.

Trip Forman: So it sounds like it's got a little bit more ripping hard in it than hybrid, but still with the ease.

TJ Metcalf: And you can size it how you want it to make it easier or more performance, based on what you need. But it's still got all the good stuff, all the foam in the chest area, good paddling, and then great performance.

Trip Forman: So if you've had Phantoms, because a lot of our customers are diehard Phantom customers, they love them, both the round-tail five-fin and also the squash-tail thruster. It looks like this board is going to have more shortboard influence, allow you to rip turns harder, but still be an accessible, easy-to-surf board.

TJ Metcalf: Yeah, for sure. Just one of the best daily drivers you could have.

Trip Forman: Okay. Compared to the original, are you guys going to be offering this board in the two different configurations, or is it going to just come out as a squash-tail thruster?

TJ Metcalf: The stocks you're going to see are just going to be thruster squash tails. But you can custom order a round tail, put as many fin boxes in as you want.

Trip Forman: Okay.

TJ Metcalf: Get it only quad if you want. Get it five-fin, thruster. Yeah, whatever you need.

Trip Forman: Awesome. Well, thank you, TJ. It's the Pyzel Phantom 2.

TJ Metcalf: Yep.

Trip Forman: Brand-new release. We're at the Boardroom Show. Any questions on this board, if you'd like to order one either stock or custom, you can always reach us at the shop, 252-987-6000, or look us up online, realwatersports.com/surfing. Thanks for tuning in.

Additional Details

Introducing the Phantom Two, an updated version of one of our most popular Daily Drivers & newest member of the Ghost Family.

Recent updates to its original design improve its best characteristics - speed, paddle power, stability & maneuverability. At the end of the process we made one for JJF and his feedback was simply “This board is really fun, I really like it!”.

The Phantom Two is a squashed down, souped up daily driver, based off the Ghost rocker, with increased nose rocker through the last 12” for later, steeper take-offs. It has a deep single concave to flatten out the rocker through the center, creating lift, speed and flow without losing overall performance or feel.

The width in the tail and nose create a more parallel, fuller outline which maintains speed through slower sections & tight turns. The outline features a hip squash that allows for more pivotal surfing and tighter radius turns than the original Phantom.

The rails are soft and forgiving, medium/full, but gently tapered, increasing flotation and speed without decreasing sensitivity. Similar to our other models, the volume carried through the chest area of the board make for solid paddle power without too much overall thickness.

Still best in waist-high to overhead waves, the Phantom Two is a great daily driver with a high performance edge.
