Chapter 1: Introduction

Welcome to the REAL Board Loft. I’m Trip Forman, and today we’re taking a look at the Maurice Cole Reverse Vee Twin Pin.

If we had 10 seconds to review this board: less fins, more barrels. Any questions? Done.

But we’re going to go a little bit longer and a little more in-depth.

This is the fourth board in the Reverse Vee lineup: the Reverse Vee Shorty, the Reverse Vee Step-Up, the Reverse Vee Hybrid, and now the Reverse Vee Twin Pin.

Chapter 2: Design Overview

This board shares a similar bottom shape with the rest of the lineup, featuring the Reverse Vee—V forward, transitioning to flat, then slight concave.

It also has channels running out the back and a twin fin setup.

Looking at the deck, the rocker through the midsection is fairly flat, with a beaked nose and a noticeable amount of tail rocker—enough to help with turning without slowing the board down in smaller waves.

The foam distribution shows a defined deck line where thickness pulls down into the rails. The board carries foam toward the edges, but the rails pull down sharply and feature Maurice Cole’s hard edge through the tail, which adds speed.

Chapter 3: Dimensions & Sizing

The board ridden here is a 7’1” x 21” x 2 13/16”, at 46 liters.

This size worked well as an all-around option, covering a wide range of conditions—from small surf to larger, more powerful waves.

A slightly smaller size could improve maneuverability, but would sacrifice some performance on both the smaller and larger ends of the spectrum.

Compared to something like a Maurice Cole Red Dingo in similar lengths, this board is narrower, which helps it get up on rail more quickly. Combined with the refined rails, it responds faster and feels more performance-oriented.

Chapter 4: Paddle & Duck Diving

At 46 liters, many would assume it’s difficult to duck dive, but that’s not the case.

The added length increases paddle speed, and the narrower outline and refined thickness make it easier to push underwater than wider boards with similar volume.

Even in conditions that require repeated duck diving, the board performs well.

Chapter 5: Twin Fin Stability

There’s often an assumption that twin fins feel loose or prone to spinning out, but that hasn’t been the case here.

The fin placement, channels, and longer rail line all contribute to stability, even on late or critical drops.

The typical concern of twin fins spinning out doesn’t really apply with this design.

Chapter 6: Reverse Vee Performance

The Reverse Vee bottom makes it easier to engage the rail and generate speed down the line.

Unlike concave-heavy boards, which can resist rail engagement, this design helps the board settle onto rail more naturally.

This becomes especially noticeable in challenging conditions like late drops, bumpy sections, or double-ups, where control is critical.

Chapter 7: Wave Range

The board works in smaller waves, but really starts to come alive in waist-high surf and above.

As conditions improve—chest high, overhead, or barreling—the board becomes more confident and performs even better.

In smaller or softer waves, the longer rail line still allows for good speed generation and flow.

Chapter 8: Ride Feel

The overall feel is fast and down-the-line, with smooth, powerful turns.

It favors speed and flow over tight, vertical surfing, especially given the longer length.

Once the board is freed up on an open face, it delivers a very fun and addictive ride.

Chapter 9: Quiver Placement

For surfers coming from longboards or midlengths, this board offers a more performance-oriented option for barreling waves without a drastic change in feel.

For shortboard riders, it provides added paddle power, earlier entry into waves, and improved ability to make sections.

It’s also particularly useful in strong current, where the extra length helps maintain position in the lineup.

Chapter 10: Final Thoughts

The Maurice Cole Reverse Vee Twin Pin is a fast, versatile board that performs across a wide range of conditions, especially when waves have some push.
