For many years, I was relatively displeased with the standard 6' leashes I was using, continually running into the same issues: A short-lifespan for the velcro on the cuff, leashes breaking at the swivel, cheap plasticy materials, and tangling. I bought my first Dakine Kaimana 6' x 1/4" in 2021 and never looked back!
This leash is extremely well designed from end to end. I love the high quality velcro and ergonomic, streamlined feeling of the cuff. My first Kaimana leash that I bought in 2021 is still going strong today, and the velcro is still secure even after big wipeouts. In fact, I even struggle to get this leash off wearing gloves/mitts in the winter (something I personally think provides a great sense of security).
The cord section of this leash has a refined and premium feel, with the dimples along it providing golf-ball like drag reduction, and the materials used in this section prevent leash memory. This essentially means that even after being coiled up, the leash will spring back to a straight line, preventing tangles around your legs/fins better than any leash I've used.
The rail saver on this leash features your typical three layer velcro system around the leash string, but then has an external sheath that slides over everything to keep it protected and secure, as well as reducing drag in the water.
Finally, one of my favorite parts of this leash is the included leash string, which is actually not-at-all the typical knotted string found with most leashes. This leash comes stock with an extremely strong looped piece of cordage that is rubber welded to itself, allowing for ideal rail saver placement on your board when doubled up through the leash plug. This small feature really adds to the strength and amazing engineering of this leash. Go grab one!
