REAL Review

The Core Nexus is a true cross over kite that excels in waves, foilboarding, and free riding. The superior stability and lighter bar feel makes it a favorite with women and lighter riders too.

Tech Specs
  • Premium Core build quality
  • CoreTex Triple Ripstop on all canopy except for LW version that use CoreTex Single Ripstop to save weight
  • ExoTex ultra rigid Dacron leading edge and struts
  • Three strut design
  • CIT Mode leading edge bridle adjustments to change the feel and power of your kite
  • Speed Valve 2 inflation system
What We Like
  • Core build quality is the best in the business. The lead designer overseas production at their factory in Sri Lanka to ensure every kite is made exactly as it was designed.
  • Core kites last twice as long than any other kite in the REAL Lesson Center.
  • Mind blowing kite stability. This is the most stable kite in the sky. You can park it at 12 o'clock let go of the bar and the kite will stay there for a while.
  • Great drift and fast turning for kitesurfing.
  • Silky smooth power delivery, not too punchy and never back stalls while foilboarding.
  • Predictable turning and hang time for freestyle.
  • The CIT settings allow you to customize the fit and feel of the kite to your riding style. That being said, we rarely move it off stock settings because it flies so well on stock settings.
What We Don't Like
  • Compared to the XR5, the Nexus lacks power and hang time.
  • Big kite loops will have you coming back to earth with more speed than you want. You don't get the "catch" like the GTS5.
  • Small amount of flutter in the wing tips on tight turns.

Description

Meet the multi-talented Universal+ Series Nexus with fully customizable handling. An athletic kite that is never too cool to learn a new trick. Whether it's on your favorite surfboard or twintip, the Nexus brings exceptional versatility to wave and freestyle riding.

Our latest design is a product of the phenomenal Section 2, the indomitable GTS and fourteen years of intensive kite development. An allrounder that instantly endeared itself to our wave+ prodigy, Willow and megaloop rockstar, Akkie.

Amazing things happened when we spliced the genes of the GTS4 and Section 2 into the Nexus. Take for example the Nexus’ CIT, the fancy acronym behind the kite’s adjustable handling modes. It lets you finetune the kite’s power and turn radius. Akkie likes his megaloops big and powerful, so he selects the CIT’s freestyle setting whereas Willow prefers the wave mode for tighter loops (on his bottom turns). The wave mode also makes the kite turn faster, increases depower and doesn’t pull you off your strapless board. We can’t forget to mention the CIT’s standard setting. In allround mode, the Nexus pulls a little more, increases hangtime (woohoo!), and turns a little slower. Perfect behaviors for newer kiters, and anyone who prefers a more relaxed riding style.

The all-new Nexus inherits many of CORE’s best innovations including its linear power delivery, three strut frame, and Radical Reaction Tips from the GTS. It also acquired the incredible handling, huge wind range, and Surf Profile from the Section 2.

The new Nexus makes fast friends everywhere. Like a big day on Silver Rock’s legendary reef. Or the buttery lagoons dotting Portugal’s west coast.

Nexus. Willow and Akkie approved. And we’ve seen what they can do.

Core is a superior product

So psyched on my recent session on the Core Nexus. I took out a 10m into the ocean in consistent, fun conditions. I was quickly impressed with its light bar feel and power in the waves. It drifted well and gave me confidence that it would perform based on my input. I crashed it into the waves a few times and it quickly relaunch, it looped well and had just the right amount of pull for smacking turns in the lip but not feeling overpowered and yanked down the line. I typically don’t grab Core gear from our rental shop due to it’s cost but whenever I do, it’s very obviously superior to other brands.

Good but not great

This kite does it all, but does not specifically excel at one aspect. It has such a great dynamic feel, but when compared it other kites in the Lineup, it can appear a little lackluster.

My go-to wave kite

I love this kite in the waves. The drift is superior to other wave kites I've tried (Slingshot SST, Liquid Force WOW) and that's what makes me grab it off the shelf every time I go to the ocean. It's got the perfect mixture of power and responsiveness for the waves; it dumps power so easily that I'll even ride it a size up because I know I won't be overwhelmed on it. Now that I've gotten into ocean foiling, I've really come to appreciate it. With the speed on the wave I get from riding a foil, this kite makes me feel more comfortable riding because I can rely on its superior drift and depower. However, I would recommend the Core Xlite over this kite if you're concentrated on foiling. I don't think this kite works anywhere near as well in light winds, and it can get bogged down when it's underpowered.

jack of all trades but master of none

The Nexxus is a kite that was shooting for sporty handling but without the aggresive yank that c-shapes usually have. kind of like a wave kite but can also go-upwind and maybe unhook or boost if you're feeling like that. but what i noticed is the kite feels gutless or doesn't have much grunt. another down side is the wind range is suprisingly small, which means its not great underpowered or doesn't handle overpowered very well either. where this kite shines is light weight riders and kids because its depowered feeling. plenty of turning speed and pretty decent slack line steering for foiling or wave deciplines, just not very fun to jump around on compared to others in its genre.

User friendly for lighter riders

The Nexus excels for lighter riders in light wind. The lighter bar feel and less grunt made it easy for a 100 lb kid to easily and consistently relaunch in light wind (10 - 14 mph) despite being on a relatively smaller size kite for those conditions. We tried the XR in the same conditions, but the student didn't have enough weight or strength to fight the pull of the XR while relaunching. The stability of the Nexus kept the smaller kite in the air even through light lulls.
