The …Lost Trouble Shooter lives up to its name by getting you in and out of trouble in waves of consequence. This board is a full length step up, so compared to what most of us are used to looking at, it’s longer and narrower with some noticeable differences compared to like step-ups of the past.

What We Like

The Trouble Shooter is designed for serious waves with competitive lineups. Yeah you might luck out and score a break like this to yourself, but when you don’t, the Trouble Shooter gives you the extra ammo to actually score a few good waves in heavy conditions. This board is a “full length step-up” meaning it’s not shortened to allow you to get away with a “shorter board”. Full length translates to a longer rail line and proportionately narrower widths, both the perfect RX for surfing powerful waves with a ton of speed and juice. Full length means for most this will probably be the longest board in your quiver, so size it by volume and make sure you have enough to get into the big ones.

Compared to other boards in this category, the Trouble Shooter has a slightly wider nose, with a lower entry rocker and a bit more foam carried forward. This makes paddling in the crowd easier and also translates to earlier entry into the wave and higher wave count. The tail channels on this board allow for different rockers to be run out the exit of the board, plus add a solid dose of grip, control and drive while warping at Mach 9. There’s a bit more width forward of the fins to allow vertical turns, while the wider tail block (compared to a narrow pintail) keeps the remaining rail line straighter for more drive. All of these tweaks remedy the narrow performance window this style of board was infamous for in the 90’s and early 2000’s.

Insider Info

When you go to the North Shore and look up in the rafters, you see tons of boards that look similar to this, but that are more foiled/rockered out. While looking at them, everyone gets super excited, but most realize a board that rockered/foiled out is out of their wheelhouse. The Trouble Shooter takes this basic design and adds subtle tweaks to bring it to a wider audience, while at the same time giving the pros an advantage when the lineup gets thick.
