from 1954 reviewsWant to be smiling from ear to ear, get a Foil Drive kit immediately. This set up will get you on the water in those days you didn't even think you could go. A Foil Drive really gives you access to waves that are not even breaking, and teaches you how to ride your foil in that energy. Before work, Foil Drive, lunch break, Foil Drive, after work Foil Drive. It is the biggest cheat code to more time on foil and hunting down swell that you would never catch paddling. The ability to move the unit between boards and foils is also a great advantage as you progress. The space is growing continually with boards and masts specifically made for Foil Drive. I really can't say enough about how fun it is. Only downside is you may want to buy an extra battery so you can go more. Don't hesitate, treat yourself today.
Its very important to stay hydrated. At work I used to drink out of a flip top bottle but found it to be more trouble than what its worth so I wouldn't use it. I recently got the Stanley Quencher FlowState 40oz Tumbler. The straw is a game changer and allows me to quickly grab sips all day with NO hassles! It fits in the drink holder in my truck as well! Stay hydrated my friends!!
I actually have 2 pairs (different colors) and love these sandals! The versatility of being able to wear them in the water is a must....especially when you live at the beach. The anatomical foot bed is a plus ( I'm over 50) and I appreciate well fitting footwear. At the beach or around town these sandals will work for you!
I work in Retail and am on my feet all day. I wear these socks daily (different pairs of course) ;) and they have held up well for the past 2 years! They are soft, comfy and have held their shape and not stretched out like other socks out there. You wont be disappointed!
Finally a sunscreen that actually stays on! I really like the pump action on the bottle. A small amount goes a long way so being able to get the right amount each time helps save product and not look like casper the ghost with tooo much! This stuff is actually tough to get off which is not a bad thing...... 100% mineral sunscreen ain't bad either!!
My title above says it all!
I've been riding the 1190, 990 and 890 on my FOIL Drive and have been having the time of my life! It feels like the two systems were meant to be together. From knee high bumps to head high waves the stability and turnability of these foils is unmatched! Because of the great pitch stability I find myself riding higher on the mast which in turn makes the whole flight more efficient!
First session on the integrated 185mm mast in the books (990 MKII & Surf MKII 200)... conditions were chest high with side off 20 knots. For perspective I've been riding the lift 180 hax and Florence 130 when foil driving. I was surprised how much lift the 990 MKII provided... felt like the same lift as the 180 hax but with obviously way more maneuverability. Had wing tips out a few times with no issue. The integrated mast/pod was so smooth. Couldn't tell if it was in or out most of the time (that's what she said). Super stoked. What a great time to be alive!
I am loving this board set up with the Armstrong 1080. Zero connectivity issues. Hours of fun. The set up rides with full Astro glide-like action on waves from 2 foot to 8 foot. Recc Titanium torx m4 16mm 0.7 pitch screws to prevent stripped heads on FD provided steel screws. If you stick w the steel screws, get a screw extractor kit and alway carry a drill.
Core really got everything right with this wing, and trust I have some big opinions on Core and other big brands in the industry. The boom has this excellently placed kink in the upper end that allows you to fly this wing easily one handed with one handed sheeting adjustments. Best boom I have handled by far. Everything feels exceptionally well balanced, no strange backdrafts or lags in the wing at all. Plenty of variability in hand placement for dynamic sheeting and power generation. Exotec 2 Dacron is stiff and holds a ton of rigidity as you pump the wing and will last longer than standard Dacron. This wing is absolutely worth the premium compared to competing brands and is my new go to, once you fly it you’ll appreciate the nuance Core put into this product. Beginner to expert there’s plenty of performance in this wing for everyone. Go aluula if you’re going all in on winging.
No one has ever been mad about riding a North Reach or a Naish Pivot. That's what I tell people who are looking for kite advice. The North Reach is the kite I always recommend to the person who doesn't know what kite they want and isn't looking for something too aggressive. It is very easy and predictable to fly. It can twin tip, surf, and foil. It handles well when depowered. It soaks up gusts pretty well. And it jumps better than you think it would. Is it an adrenaline pumping boost to the moon kite? No. But it is a great all rounder that works for everyone
Great grip, super comfy and adjustments hold tight. Fit booties well also.
Been riding the 82cm High Modulus mast with the Flow series foils. Works great and really feels like a nice sweet spot both sound side and ocean side. I ride the 72cm regular carbon mast when I don't have the depth but I find that it is a little too small for the 1000cm Flow wing. The 82cm gives me the extra height and stiffness I want for that particular wing.
Been riding the Turbo 180 tail with the Flow series foils. Works great and is very stable at high speeds. Doesn't have the pump and glide of some higher aspect tails but still works pretty well.
Like many other people this has become my go to board for all conditions. I'm 5'8" 140lbs and the 100L is all the board I need for light wind days. Its narrow enough to build speed in light wind and stable enough to stand on and wait for the wind. Also, it fits in the back of my 6ft truck bed no problem if it is at an angle. When the wind picks up I ride the 85L. Still a very stable option but not quite enough float for me to stand on in no wind and wait for the gusts. At my size the 75L sinks a bit so I have to knee start it every time. The 85L fits in the back of my truck at a very slight angle and the 75L fits no problem. I have even proned the 85L and it does surprisingly well and is much easier to paddle than a dedicated prone surf foil board (although it is noticeably more rolly side to side once you are up). A pattern that I have noticed a lot of people fall into is that they will buy a "beginner" foil board in the 100-135L range that is a bit wider and more stable, and then switch the the 100L or 85L mid length once they can get most of their jibes. This seems to be a winning strategy for progression.
I flew this wing in a 5m in 16-18mph winds back to back with the Aluula version. My takeaway from that experience was that for the average rider I think the Dacron version is plenty good. This wing has great low end grunt to get you up and riding and is very easy to maneuver while jibing. The handles on this wing are great. It took a little time to adjust to the spacing and size but they are very comfy and easy to use. It's a little on the pricey side for wings but it is a quality product.
