Description

From North

The 2023 Nova has a structurally balanced freeride shape for enhanced aerodynamic performance. Engineered for stability in gusty winds, the new Nova has a progressive swept outline and refined profile section, making it easier to handle and more stable when riding. Your front and back arm pressure is even, not backhand-heavy. The wing creates lift so that you can glide through turns effortlessly without any tail drop.

Precise yet compliant. The wingtip geometry and balanced dihedral also prevent oscillation side-to-side when gripping the front handle, riding downwind swell, surfing, or simply walking towards the water.

With a sweet spot so generous, it makes hard things easy. The new draft-forward curvature in the profile section generates more lift in the front of the wing. This makes transitions smoother and, when combined with improved canopy tensioning, boosts Nova’s low-end power. So much so you can drop down a size.

The stiffer, more responsive airframe and tighter skin tensioning mean the canopy stays clean through a wider wind range. We’ve minimized flutter and created a clean trailing edge release with reduced drag.

To ensure the wing remains stable and comfortable in overpowered conditions, we've tapered the leading-edge diameter, concentrating the stiffness in the LE center and allowing the reflexed wingtips to dump excess power.

Master of the upwind, glide through tacks, float through gybes, and lofty jumps with bonus hangtime. Whatever goal you’re chasing, the Nova will send you there faster.

Your everything. A wing with power when needed, leaving no rider wanting. Maximum low-end to get you up on the foil earlier. Top-end performance that lets you exploit gusty conditions. A wing that feels stable and balanced to fly, has lift through maneuvers and feels light in your hands.

Nova New and Improved

The 2023 Nova felt a bit different than the 2022 model in that it didn't have quite the low end grunt of the previous model. I felt like the top end range was a bit better though, with more stability in the 20's than last years model. Same incredible build quality and user friendliness that made the 2022 so good. This is definitely one of the better wings on the market today. I am 195lbs and I rode the 5M in just over 15mph and it was perfect.

Really nice upgrades from the 2022 North Nova

Here are the technical differences between the 2022 and 2023 North Nova from what I could tell. The 2023 5m is one pound lighter than the 2022 Nova. The 2023 has a wider wing span with more swept back tips. The 2023 has a much tighter canopy and leading edge/strut design. The 2023 looks quite a bit different than the 2022.

These are the difference riding the two wings back to back. The 2023 is a higher performance wing than the 2022 Nova. The 2023 is faster in a straight line, goes upwind better, has more forward drive to get started and has more pop for jumps with better hang time. The 2022 has a bigger sweet spot so you hands can be anywhere on the bars and you can get going. That being said, the 2023 is still user-friendly. The 23 Nova is a little easier to catch the wing tip but the more forward drive gets you out of the water sooner so you loose a bit and gain a bit.

North said that you can ride the 2023 a size smaller. I don't think that is the case. The 5m 2023 has more get up and go than the 2022 5m but you should NOT size down to the 4.2m 2023 to try to replace a 2022 5m Nova. I would recommend going the same sizes understanding that you will get more low end power out of the wing. With the more rigid frame, the 2023 Nova handles gusts and the top end of the range a bit better too.
