Matt Nuzzo: Red carbon. This thing is going to go fast. I'm definitely scared. Drew, are you scared?
Drew Davis: Yep. I'm scared.
Matt Nuzzo: What's up everybody? Matt Nuzzo hanging out here backyard of REAL. Got Drew Davis. What's up guys? We're out here testing some E foils today. And today we're going to go racing. Let's go racing. We're going to try the two smallest boards in the Fliteboard line. So, we have here L3 and Race. So, these two boards are the smallest two boards. They're their high performance boards and they have very specific setups that we're going to go out and blast around the sound. Try them out. Pretty nervous. I am nervous. Genuinely, I am nervous. You want to go fast? Uh, not that fast, but yeah, let's go fast.
Matt Nuzzo: Okay, so let's go over a couple features of these two boards here. So, we've got the L3. This is a form factor board designed for riding waves. What they did here with the L3, they moved the mast farther forward. This is a carbon mast that is designed with a really skinny prop and motor here. Folding prop. This has the Flite Lab Flux 707. Very spicy. Use this foil for foil surfing. A lot of fun. Has also in here the nano battery. So, this is the lightest battery. So, this is a lightweight rig designed for foil surfing, for wake foiling, for riding wakes, riding swell, also being really carvy.
Matt Nuzzo: Now, we got the Race over here. Longer board, narrower board, has the opportunity to have all three batteries. So, this one has the sport battery, which is the midsize battery, which you can put in the Explorer, or the nano battery if you want to have the lightest weight setup. This also has a form factor rig with a specific mast. Has a jet drive with a race impeller and a high power motor here. Also going to use the 707 plus cuz that goes fast. I'm kind of scared, not going to lie. We're going to go out here, go back to back on these things, try them out, go rip around, probably eat crap a lot. Red carbon. This thing is going to go fast. Definitely scared. Drew, are you scared?
Drew Davis: Yep, I'm scared.
Matt Nuzzo: So, this L3 is really lightweight in the e-foil category. It only is going to give you about 45 minutes of run time, but that's going to be plenty for going out rip around catching waves if you want the most sporty performance setup. But you also can put that sport battery in there, which is going to give you probably about an hour and a half or something like that run time. And then racing obviously depends on what you're looking for. A little more weight isn't the worst thing because you'll have that board to kind of like have a little more momentum and carry it with you. So, you could go for that Explorer battery depending on what you're looking to do for your amount of run time you want to have. So, when you look at the shape of these boards, this race board compared to the L3, the race board is more of like a mid-length style, so it's longer and narrower. It's probably going to have an easier takeoff. And then this one is shorter and wider, so it's going to go kind of rail to rail and pivot a lot quicker and easier. Great safety features on these controllers. Have to pull the trigger, push the minus to get going.
Matt Nuzzo: Wow, this thing is crazy smooth. Oh boy. And spicy. Woo. This goes way faster than I want to go already. Wow, this thing is responsive. I can turn my pinky toe. Hey Drew, let's race to the wind meter and back. Time to turn up volume here a little bit. This thing cooks, dude. Woo! Smoking right off the bat. What? I'm only on 10 of 20. Oh, I got to slow down. I got to slow down. Woah! This thing is stupid fast. I was only on 10 and it felt way out of control. Yeah, Drew.
Matt Nuzzo: Okay, time to go kick Drew's butt again. If you want to go fast this race board, I didn't think e-foiling could be this much fun just going fast, but it's really awesome. Come on, boy. Come and get it. Okay, I'm on six. Come on, Drew. Hit me. Not even half throttle on six. You can't even fit. Time to pull away. Come on, Drew. Is that all you got?
Drew Davis: That's all I got.
Matt Nuzzo: I'm on 10 half throttle. Pulling away. Okay, get into the wind meter. Just smoking through and I'm on 10 out of 20. This thing goes way faster than you want. Drew, I smoked you. Hey, Drew, come switch up. How's the L3?
Drew Davis: Oh, it's it's a little quicker. This would be really fun in waves or behind a boat that's throwing a wake. Yeah, it's really fast, really responsive. We have a small foil on it, so that definitely helps with it. But um it's a little bit more challenging than than other e-foils to get up on. You have to get a lot of speed. You have to be a little bit further up on the nose. But you know, it's really fast, really great. Definitely a performance e-foil.
Matt Nuzzo: Dude, I just smoked you on that Race.
Drew Davis: Yes. Yes, you did. What were your settings?
Matt Nuzzo: Uh I was just at eight on pro mode. Fully pinned, but I couldn't catch up to you. Yeah, I was like eight, then went 9 10. I was like half throttle at 10 just pulling away. Man, this thing looks funny. That's all I need. I'm not an adrenaline junkie. I don't need any more than that. What I did find though with the Race is it was actually comfortable at speed. I mean, as long as you're not like not going over bumpy water or something, it felt really comfortable at speed. A lot more comfortable than I was expecting. So, let's switch up and try these out. Here we go. L3 action. Disengage minus power. Oh, yeah. This one's got Well, with this board being shorter, it definitely has more nose surge. L3 carving machine. So smooth. Lots of glide. The L3 is really quick rail to rail. Very surfy. Such a different feel than that Drew racing me. I'm pegged at seven. It's just blasting past me. Very different board for the performance end. If you're on a lake and just want to go hammer, that race board is so cool. But if you have any option to ride wide waves, this thing is going to be so cool. Really quick rail on rail. So fun just to cruise around and carve.
Matt Nuzzo: It's really awesome to ride these two performance foils back to back. This L3 is so sporty and quick rail to rail. If you want the fastest turning carving, hardest kind of rail to rail surf oriented foil, e-foil, this light is really quite impressive. You want to go fast, that race board with a jet prop. I didn't think I was going to really like that one. That thing's incredible. And if I was on a lake, I would definitely get one of those things because it's really quick, but it's actually fairly user friendly. And that jet race prop with the foil setup, the 707 plus. Wow. That thing is amazing. Really loving that thing. Yo, Drew, what do you think of the Race e-foil?
Drew Davis: Oh my gosh. I mean, the jet propeller is so different. Like when I initially thought jet, I'm like, okay, might just be a marketing term, but it actually feels a lot different. I got up and going, I was like, I am a Gulfstream. It just feels so so smooth.
Matt Nuzzo: It does feel like Yeah, that's exactly right. It feels like you're like on a jet prop. Like the thing's just flying, you know? Like it goes so I mean, it goes incredibly fast. I thought it was actually easier to get up on than the L3.
Drew Davis: Yeah. And I think that's because of the length. It's more like a mid-length.
Matt Nuzzo: That length just gives you kind of like easier takeoff for still a small board and all in these foils like these foils. I thought they were going to be pretty sketchy cuz they're small, but they're like really fast and super smooth.
Drew Davis: Yeah. No, it was a great experience. The L3 is great. It was a really responsive, really ripable. The smaller foils, that's something that I think would be better in the waves than on flat water. The Race you can have fun on flat water because you're just going so fast, right? But that I think it would be better if you're actually using the folding prop to its advantage and you're carving waves kind of as it was intended, right? And you could like I'm sure you could wake foil this like we didn't try wake foiling it but I know people that have wake foiled behind like wake foil boats and stuff like that cuz with that smaller prop and you know folding prop and smaller diameter motor and everything it does have quite a bit less drag so you can ride wakes, waves, small bumps, things like that.
