I've been using this leash for about a year now and it is very light, but unfortunately not the most comfortable. On heavier days the cuff definitely digs into my ankle. Also, the chord is nylon and on some occasions I've gotten slight rope burn from it wrapping around my leg or arms. Personal, I just like the classic FCS leash and think the "upgrades" on this aren't worth the additional price.
Nice to see some innovation and new ideas with surf leashes. I've been using my Freedom Leash for quite some time now. I find the ankle cuff to actually be very comfortable. Its a very different material than most cuffs, and at first glance it looks a little too rigid, but in use its great. I don't find the leash getting tangled any more or less than any other leash I have had. I am not a huge fan of the braided material of the cord. You can get a little bit of rope burn if it runs through your hand quickly. I also only use it during the summer for this reason, so that it doesn't get pulled along my wetsuit and possibly tear into it. I keep this leash on my grovel summer board, and it works perfectly for that purpose!
Been hearing a lot about the Freedom Leash but hadn’t had a chance to try it out yet. Holy Moly! Surfed the 6ft. leash in waist to chest high waves in Cape Hatteras with the Lost Smooth Operator mid-length. Not once during the entire session did I think about, feel my leash or get it tangled around my foot while paddling. This leash is the real deal!
I did find the cuff to be a bit small to fit around my ankle with a 5/4 and boots on but it didn’t present any issues.
