    Information About La Ventana

    About La Ventana

La Ventana is a laid-back fishing village & now kiteboarding town located on the Baja Californa Sur peninsula located about 2 1/2 hours from Cabo San Lucas. As the thermal picks up around mid-morning, the wind funnels between the mainland and Cerralvo Island and blows side onshore consistently from November to April. The Sea of Cortez has been referred to as “the world’s aquarium” due to the abundance of sea life.

    The Wind:

The peak of the windy season is December to March. It is typically a midday thermal that gets accelerated by a venturi effect as the wind funnels onshore between the island and mainland. Typical sessions start around 11am and last until the sun starts to set at about 5pm. The wind is side-on-shore from the Northeast direction. This makes the mornings perfect for sup-ing or walking on the beach plus a full day of sessions.

Your extended time on the water at our La Ventana SuperCamp will dramatically improve your ability level. Our camps provide an empowering group setting to learn beginner to advanced skills. You can expect us to be on the beach or the water for 2-4 hours/day (conditions permitting) where we will offer extra support and pointers for jump-starting your progression. Brandon, Sensi and Nadja have over 40+ years of combined windsports experience and bring this expertise to your most difficult hurdles.

Spend a week with us to receive consistent and thoughtful feedback and incorporate these pointers into your wing foiling, Foil Drive and kiteboarding at your own pace throughout the camp.

Example trip goals: Gain confidence, meet friends, first jumps, nail your first tack, riding toeside, upwind progression, backrolls, unhooked tricks, getting comfortable on your surfboard, learning to ride a foil board, jumping higher, have a great vacation

    Suggested Kite Gear

What gear should you bring for La Ventana?

    Considerations for Kiters

    • February in La Ventana brings consistent thermal winds and sunny, mild weather—ideal for all-day kite sessions.
    • Pack versatile kite sizes that cover light to strong winds—a mid-range freeride/all-around kite is a smart base

    Kites

    • 2-3 freeride/all-around kites (e.g., 7m + 9 m + 12 m)
    • Optional: light-wind kite (15 m+) or smaller kite (5–8 m) if foiling
    • Twin-tip board (or foil board if foiling)
    • Control bar with lines
    • Kite harness
    • Board bag (if bringing your own)
    • Safety accessories: helmet, leash, pump, repair kit, valve adapter, board fins, etc.

    Wetsuit

    • Expect average water temps around 65–70 °F (18–21 °C), with air temperatures warm but not overly hot. A light wetsuit or protective clothing is recommended—sun protection is key.
    • A 3/2mm wetsuit is typically sufficient for the water temperatures in La Ventana
    • Optional: Spring suit or Short Sleeve Full, 4/3mm if forecast looks chillier
    • A second suit you can put on dry is great for multiple sessions per day

    Shop Kite Gear

    Suggested Foil & Wing Gear

What Kite Foil, Foil Drive, and Wing gear should you bring for La Ventana?

    Considerations for Foilers

    • Wind: Expect consistent thermal winds and sunny skies, offering reliable wing-foiling conditions.
    • A flat, sandy beach with negligible shore break makes for easy launching and landings.

    Inflatable Wings

    • Suggested wing sizes are 3m to 6m, depending on wind conditions.

    Wing and Foil Drive

    • Medium to high-aspect foils prioritize efficiency and glide to maximize long rides on open ocean swells.
    • Front Wing Sizing depends on your weight and skill level. Larger wings can work for smaller waves or easier takeoff while smaller wings offer additional performance.

    Wing and Foil Drive Boards

    • Wing Board- Sizing depends on your weight and skill level but a mid-length is a great choice as a single board quiver
    • Foil Drive Board- A board specifically designed and set up for Foil Drive is best in addition to your wing board.

    Foil Drive

    • Foil Drive Assist MAX is the flagship model with maximum power, runtime, thrust and versatility.
    • Foil Drive Max Travel Battery - allows you to travel with your gear! The MAX Travel Battery breaks down into three smaller sections for approved airline travel with 2 parts being 129.6wh and one part at 97.2wh.
    • You can charge using standard US 120 V electrical plugs; no adapter needed.

    Additional Gear

    • Leashes- A coiled leash for the board and a waist leash for the wing to ensure safety, ability to paddle and convenience.
    • Pump- High-quality pump
    • Protective Gear- Helmet & impact vast
    • Wetsuit- A 3/2mm wetsuit is typically sufficient for the water temperatures in La Ventana
    • Accessories- Foot straps and backup hardware
