Featuring the cutting-edge design and engineering found in the Elite Series of harnesses, the Type 2 harness combines a distinctive composite Step-2 hard-shell construction. This construction provides increased torsional flex while preserving superior lumbar lock support derived from biometric data. Complete with the revolutionary Hyperlock spreader bar system and Ride Engine’s renowned craftsmanship, including closed-cell Fusion foam and a full neoprene comfort wrap, the Elite Type-2 is perfect for riders seeking a liberated feel for technical freestyle and hydrofoil or aggressive kite surfing sessions.

Features:
  • Composite Step-2 Hard-Shell
    • Utilizing biometric analysis and advanced movement design, the composite Step-2 Hard-Shell within the Ride Engine harness lineup provides enhanced torsional flex. This is ideal for riders seeking the support of a hard-shell harness while also desiring a more liberated sensation.
  • Hyperlock Ratchet Technology
    • Featuring patented and licensed technology, these ratchets replace the traditional webbing connection. Rigorously tested for over 6 years, including 1.5 years of in-house testing at Ride Engine.
  • Hyperlock Spreader Bar
    • Ensuring seamless and highly adjustable integration with Hyperlock ratchets, this configuration offers a completely new level of harness-to-rider interaction. Aftermarket closed metal loop, sliding rope spreader and windsurf hook compatible.
  • Full Neoprene wrap with EVA Anti-Slip Inserts
    • The neoprene interface at critical contact points is designed to prevent rashes, complemented by EVA inserts that effectively eliminate unwanted twisting of the harness.
  • Multiple Leash Attachment Options
    • Removable handle pass leash attachment and ambidextrous front leash mounting options. • Internal Elastic Waist Belt: Single closure waist belt provides a secure fit and easy adjustment.

  • Ultralight Elite Performance
    • Internal ergonomic Fusion closed-cell foam padding, seamlessly fused with the composite Step-2 hard shell, and combined with the Hyperlock spreader bar system all equal a recipe that is found in the Elite Series harnesses that equate to one of the lightest harnesses available today coming in at just 1KG for a size M.

Cranked TIGHT

After a few years of riding the Mystic Stealth harness, I was intrigued by RideEngine's new buckle design with this generation's Elite harness. I am a huge fan. I am someone who prefers to keep my harness cranked down as tight as possible and this new design allows me to get this harness cranked tighter than anything I've worn before. Something to keep in mind is that I cam from a Medium size Stealth down to a Small RideEngine Elite. I found that this harness did not work as well oversized, I recommend trying on a few different sizes if able or sizing down a step.

Excellent fit and functionality. Our favorite harness yet

My son ended up getting one of these in demo after having ride-up issues with his Dakine Pyro harness. He ended up settling on the non-carbon version since it's really supportive but doesn't press in on his sides or back like the carbon (he's skinny and twiggy, so this one just suited his body type the best). I tried one out myself in the shop, but they don't come in 2XL, but this harness will let you customize it like crazy. The ratchet system is simply the best. I don't mind regular strap style, but these are next level. The best part about going to Real is they've got just about everything in there, so you can try them on or get something in the rental shop to test instead of gambling on a few seconds of fitting out of the water.

These may seem a little pricey, but the spreader is included, so it almost evens out with a regular harness. Maybe it's slightly more premium in price, but dude, it's worth it!

Ratchet System Works Great, Padding Not For Me

The Hyperlock Ratchet system is fantastic. You can really tighten the harness down and even make on the fly adjustments out on the water. My only compliant with these harnesses is that the grip pads on the inside of the harness are placed right over where your kidneys are. I find that this makes for a very uncomfortable pressure point that makes it so that I personally can't ride this harness. The Lyte model does not have these grip pads but I find that the stiffer foam on that model awkwardly digs into my ribs. I always recommend that people come into the store to try on harnesses. They are one of those things, just like ski or snowboard boots, that its important for you not to limit yourself to one brand or price point, but rather to try on everything and just go with what's fits your body the best. It's a bummer this harness doesn't work for me, but that doesn't mean it wont work for you. When you consider that the price on the Hyperlock includes a spreader bar, its actually a reasonably priced harness with great functionality.
