Boardroom Icons of Foam honoring Pat Rawson
On September 25-26, REAL’s Trip Forman and Jeffrey O’Neil were invited to The Boardroom Show in Del Mar, California. Trip was invited by Pat Rawson to help judge the Icons of Foam shape off, and filmer Jeffrey O’Neil to document the event.
The Boardroom Show has a long established history of being an iconic surfboard focused show (not bikinis, boardshorts and sandals). Icons of Foam is held each year, pitting eight shapers head to head to hand shape the honorees choice of boards.
This year the show honored Pat Rawson. Pat’s choice of shapers to compete in this year’s Icons of Foam shape off presented by US Blanks included:
Ward Coffey (replacing Chris Borst)
*Ward Coffey was a last minute replacement for Chris Borst and had to drive through the night to make the event. Iron Man Award!
3 Rawson Surfboards
Shapers were given five minutes to measure the finished/glassed board, and then ninety minutes to hand shape their closest replica. The three boards Rawson chose for the three rounds of competition included:
Rawson TC Pipeline Snap
7’8 x 17 7/8 x 2 7/16
Rawson TC Impala Quad
6’5 x 18.5 x 2’6
*This board is signed by Tom Carroll and available for purchase at REAL.
Round 3 (Finals):
Rawson Allen Sarlo Gun
9’0 x 20 3/4 x 3.5

Best in Show:
Another event under The Boardroom event umbrella is the “Best in Show” surfboard competition. This event is judged on concept, shape, glassing and finish work. The goal is a flawless masterpiece. This year’s winning board, a high performance sting duo, shaped by Ryan Sakal and glassed by Moonlight Glassing, is available for purchase at REAL.
“The Boardroom Show, founded by Scott Bass, brings the surf industry back to where it belongs. Boards first. This was our first time attending and we’re definitely going back. Great surfing, food, nightlife, the Icons of Foam shape off, plus INSANE one of a kind surfboards, make this a must visit show for all board junkies (like me!)” - Trip Forman
