Matt Nuzzo: Okay, we’ve got to talk. It’s time to upgrade your eFoil.
What’s up everybody? Matt Nuzzo here at the REAL Lesson Center in Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Today we’re talking about eFoils—where they came from and the new technology on the market. I want to give you four reasons why the Foil Drive Fusion is the future of eFoiling.
eFoils have been around for about a decade and they’ve been a great learning tool for getting more time on foil. If you want to progress quickly, spending time on an eFoil helps a ton.
Lift was one of the first to market, and it’s been a great product for us. We’ve put a lot of miles on ours—it’s been through the ringer over the years. Since then, other brands like Fliteboard have come out with similar setups. Most traditional eFoils are complete packages: battery, mast, board, and foil all built together. You buy one unit, put it together, and ride—kind of like a jet ski.
Now enter the Foil Drive Fusion. This is a completely different approach. It’s a compact battery system that mounts to the front of your board and can be added to almost any foil setup—any board, mast, fuselage, or brand. It turns your existing gear into an eFoil.
Let’s break down the four reasons why the Foil Drive Fusion is going to replace traditional eFoils.
First—and biggest—is weight. A full setup with the Fusion is about 30 to 35 pounds lighter than a traditional eFoil. A big part of that is the battery. Traditional eFoil batteries weigh anywhere from 25 to 38 pounds, while the Fusion battery is closer to 5 pounds.
Second is performance. With less weight, the board feels much more nimble. It gets up on foil easier, lets you ride smaller foils, and overall delivers higher performance. You can transition into riding boat wakes, get into the surf lineup, and start riding waves and swells.
What used to be a simple back-and-forth ride off the dock becomes something much more dynamic. You can pump, turn, and really engage with different foil disciplines that weren’t accessible with traditional eFoils.
Third is customization. Because the Fusion works with virtually any foil setup, you can tailor your gear exactly how you want. As you progress, you can upgrade your board, your foil, or your entire setup.
You might start on a large inflatable board for stability, then move to a more advanced setup like a custom board. The system grows with you, allowing you to adapt your gear as your skills improve.
The final point is reliability. We’ve tested a lot of eFoils and foil assist systems over the years, both in lessons and personal use. The Foil Drive has consistently been the most reliable system we’ve sold.
