The RPM is back for another year of greatness. Everyone loves the RPM. It is slated as a high performance "Open C" kite designed for the intermediate to advanced rider. In reality, it is a kite that works for a lot of ability levels in a lot of conditions.

What we like:
The RPM is a simple three strut kite that is super stable over head, and it has a direct bar feel with really snappy solid pull. This kite does it all. It water relaunches, jumps great, works for waves and wake style. The full wing tip delivers consistent pull through the turn, so you never get yanked off your edge. The Split Strut design keeps all sizes rigid on the high end and low end of the wind range. The Comp Stick bar has all features you want and none of the features you don't want.

What we didn't like:
There are very few things to not like about the RPM, but if we had to pick it would be the suspension bridal. The suspension bridal on the leading edge looks a little crazy to someone that has not seen it before. It is easy to set up and makes the kite work great, but it does look different than most. The only other thing to note is that they are not overly powerful for their size. A lot of kites that are flatter deliver a ton of power per size. The RPM has an amazing smooth carving feel with a plenty of power, but some people will find they might be riding one kite size bigger than their friends on flatter kites.

Why you want the RPM 2012:
Stability, smooth power, and an all around great package. If you know how to kiteboard already, get on an RPM and you will never look back. If you are just learning, don't be afraid of the performance of this kite. It is easy to handle and will leave you plenty of room to grow.

Customer Reviews

  1. The best kite ever made

by Matt Nuzzo on August 3, 2012

If I had to have 1 kite for the rest of my life it would be an RPM. In the 12 years I have been kiteboarding there have been a lot of really good kites and a lot of really bad kites. The RPM is one of those really good kites.

The RPM does everything well in all sizes and in all conditions. It is targeted to the intermediate and advanced riders, but it water realunches well enough for a beginner.
  2. You already know....5 Stars!

by Chris Stellato, REAL Lesson Center on March 24, 2012

You already know the RPM is a great kite. Solid performance and slingshot construction, the kite of choice for many progressive riders. Beginner friendly and easy to fly with minimal bridles.

No big changes for 2012 - the split strut construction still making for a really consistent feel in the sky. Good relaunch and the 14M is a good light wind performer.
