•Construction: Aluminum mast and fuselage with brushed Carbon wings. Durable EPS Board.
•Foil Attachment Type: Plate attachment and adjustable track system on the board.
•Foil Weight: 8.9 lbs.
•Compatibility: The LF Happy Foil will work on any board that has the adjustable track system. You can get the low aspect Rocket/Foil Fish front wing for super low-speed foiling.
•Mast Adjustability: Liquid Force makes a 60cm(23.4") short mast and collar for learning and shallow water foiling.
•Something Special: The Happy Foil comes with a killer bag for the foil(doesn't fit the board) and padded wing covers. You can kite the Happy Board without the foil.
•Just Being Picky: The rear wing placement and shims can be a little confusing. We recommend the 2.5 shim for max lift and the widest positioning on the fuselage for stability.
•Padded foil bag with separate compartments for all the parts.
•Padded wing covers
•Aluminum 100cm(39.4") mast
•Aluminum 78cm fuselage
•Carbon medium aspect front and back wings
•Front wing shim
•Back wing shims of 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 degrees
•Foil Hardware and lube to reduce corrosion
•Heavy duty allen wrench
•Board mounting hardware
•4'10 EPS Happy Board
•Three foot straps with screws
What we like:
The Happy Foil is perfect for the kiteboarder that "doesn't want to grow out of their foil". We hear that a lot from customers that don't want to spend a bunch of money on a beginner foil that they won't like in five sessions. The Happy Foil fits perfectly in this category as it is customizable to your preferences as you advance and with the short mast is easy enough to learn on.
The Happy Foil is a very high-quality product. Maybe it is the bag or something, but when you zip open the foil bag and start pulling out all the components you see how much time and effort went into making all of the parts of this foil.
The wings are a medium aspect foil that can go way faster than most recreational riders want, and they still have enough lift to get you out of the water in low winds. We mostly use the 2.5 degree rear wing shim since it gives you more lift at low board speeds. Basically, you get on foil easier and earlier. If you want to ride more powered up and go faster, drop down to the 2.0 or even the 1.5 and you will be smoking!
The 78cm fuselage is long and really stable. The longer the fuselage, the more stable the ride. LF was smart and added an extra screw hole so you can move the back wing in. This essentially shortens the fuselage and makes the foil feel more turny on the water.
Being able to ride the Happy board without the foil is a great plus. It is not the best kitesurf board on the market, but in a pinch it does ride pretty well. You can also wake surf it behind a boat. The ability to use two or three foot straps gives you more options too.
We loved adding on the 60cm(23.6") mast option for shallow waters and learning. It takes a lot of the learning curve out of foiling so you won't be porpoising as much. The Happy comes with a pretty long mast for better upwind performance, so the short mast is a good option. The longer the mast the more hiked over you can get the board and the harder upwind you can go. This also helps with areas that have deep water and big chop.
Riding the Happy you understand why they named it the Happy Foil. You will be smiling the entire time and the board is a boat load of fun. You feel really confident and solid while you are up on foil with the Happy.
The Happy foil is not a race foilboard. The sweet spot of the Happy Foil is in that mid-range speed where you're going fast but not scared. At these speeds, the Happy Foil is incredibly fun, stable and maneuverable. You will get better low speed lift from a Foil Fish/Rocket wing and higher top speed from a full blown race foil.
We sell the LF short mast with the collar because LF uses lock tight and there are really tight tolerances between the mast and collar. This means that they will not wiggle loose and shimmy over time.
The Happy Board can be used as a kiteboard without the foil which is an amazing feature. If the wind jacks up and you want to take off your foil and slash around on the Happy board. You will be stoked. It will not replace your kitesurf board though because it is a little slow and not super turny. The quad fins that come with the board are pretty basic plastic fins that do the board no justice. With a better set of fins, the Happy board will ride faster. These fin boxes are FCS Classic two tab fin compatible.
