REAL Review

The FCD Shrike is designed with good waves in mind. This board is designed for ripping turns off the lip in the critical section of the wave.

Tech Specs

  • Marko iFoam durable closed cell foam blank
  • EPS Epoxy Construction
  • Thin Rails with a Single Concave bottom shape
  • Five Fin Futures Configuration to be ridden as Quad or Tri (Fins not included)

What We Like

When the waves turn on, so does the Shrike. You will find the Shrike can turn as hard as you can with out any bounce or wash out. When riding a powerful wave and a powered kite it is hard to get the balance and stability you need from a kite surfboard, and we found the Shrike rises to the occasion.

You can really change the performance by changing the fins from Tri to Quad. The Tri fin set up gives you better hold and drive on bigger surf. The quad makes the Shrike loose and snappy on smaller waves.

The quality of materials and craftsmanship is second to none. The iFoam blank has this crazy blend of vibration absorption and liveliness. It feels so smooth and damp (a good thing) on the water but also can spring out of turns. The fiberglass schedule is 4oz - 6oz - 6oz deck and 6oz - 6oz bottom. For reference, a standard surfboard (not FCD) is 4oz - 4oz deck and single 4oz bottom. High end materials do make a difference and you can feel it under your feet.

Insider Info

Despite being designed for better waves, the Shrike still does great in the smaller stuff too. If you want a traditional pointy nose surfboard shape, you can't do better than the Shrike.

The feel of the Marko iFoam is second to none. Once you ride a board with this foam you will be addicted to it because all the water vibration is gone.

Why you want the FCD Shrike:

If you are kitesurfing in decent waves, you will love the feel of the Shrike. It is so balanced, stable and easy to ride that it gives you a true surf style connection to the wave while you are kitesurfing.
