What We Like

This kite has nice low end power and you can feel it in the sky. Sheet in and go kiteboarding. It's that easy right? With the Free, kiting in light wind is that easy.

The water relaunch is the best in the business. The short bridle keeps you from getting any bridle wrap on the wing tip during water relaunch. Combo that with a lot of arc in the leading edge and a wide and full wing tip and you have a kite that rolls over to the wing tip and won't fall over backwards on to its trailing edge.

In underpowered conditions you will appreciate the light weight three strut design because the kite hangs in the air, even when the wind isn't that right.

Tomahawk Test

Core makes some of the strongest kites on the market, these are ready to be crashed, rolled and ridden hard. Their materials and construction hold up better than any kites on the market. One issue we have found with rolling the Free is with the high V on their bar. The high V on the bar makes it more difficult to untwist the lines after you have rolled the kite through the center lines.

Insider Info

The LW canopy material makes this kite drop a lot of weight and adds a lot of performance. The down side is that the material is not as durable as the CoreTex triple rip stop. That being said we have had very little damage to our LW kites in the REAL Lesson Center. The LW kites are holding up great but will be less resistant to cuts and tears than the standard construction.

In comparison to the XR4 LW series, the Free has better light wind relaunch and less top end wind range.

Who is the Core Free LW for?

Just like the standard version, the Free LW is very easy to use and perfect for the beginner/intermediate rider. If you want to take more sessions on a stable and easy to fly kite in light wind, the Free LW is for you.

The Core Free LW has strong low end pull and the best light wind water relaunch in the Core line up.

Not everyday is ideal. Like when your favorite weather app teases you with yellow as you pack your gear and jump in the car. Just as you pull into the beach, the forecast is downgraded. But you remembered to pack the new CORE Free LW in the trunk. And in ten minutes, you are on the water doing what you love with a wickedly silly grin and a few fist pumps.

This 3 strut, bow inspired, lightwind all-rounder lets you be you. In waves, on the slick, or in between. Rest assured, the Free LW will make a lot of new friends this season with its stump pulling, work inhibiting, awesomeness. Strapless riders will appreciate the insane drift and instant relaunch. Air-stylers and freeriders will drool over the incredible range and lift. Free LW. Don’t leave home without one.

• 3 Strut Light Frame
Less is more. The Free inherits the GTS’s 3 Strut Light Frame concept which promotes more twist than a similar kite with five struts. More twist initiates faster turns and bigger grins. In addition, the reduced kite weight improves slack line drifting.

• Delta Bow Shape
The best of both worlds. The Free is recognized by the classic concave trailing edge of a bow; the swept back wings and smaller tips of a delta shape. This magic combination maximizes depower and control for early planing; upwind performance and, of course, big air. The shape also contributes to CORE’s signature precision, bar feel, relaunch-ability, and turn characteristics.

• Intelligent Arc
Intelligent Arc is a bridle configuration perfected on the XR series that modifies the airfoil on demand in a linear and direct way. Like a bird that spreads its wings to generate more lift, the Free increases its wingspan with a pull on the bar. Likewise, sheet out and the kite folds in its wings and depowers. Intelligent Arc. For precise, controllable, power and depower on demand.

• 4 Line Setup
Classic, clean and safe. The Free’s simple 4 line rigging gets you on the water in no time and benefits from the Sensor 2 bar’s proven SSF safety. Why change something that ain’t broke?

• Ultrashort Bridle System
Say goodbye to bridle induced bowties with our shortest bridle system ever. The new configuration improves feedback so you can better sense your kite position. For precise, tight but not overpowering, pivoty turns. In the larger kite sizes, this reflexivity increases even more so. Say hello to the un-bowtie-able Free.
