Nothing better than a dawn patrol session on Thanksgiving Day. We started scouting the southside of the island at first light from Frisco Pier down to Hatteras Village looking for the best break. Clean offshores and COLD air temps (37f air, 55f water) made hooded suits the call.
On the hunt were Matt Nuzzo, Pete Hardie, Toby Diggens, Joby Cook and myself. We ended up surfing just west of the bathhouse on a nice reeling waist to shoulder high beach break with really fun lefts and rights. We had a bunch of newer boards with us including the new …Lost V3 Rocket and V2 Shortboard, plus the go to standards like the …Lost LayZboy, Sub Scorcher 2 and Roberts Anything.
Patagonia sent me a sample 2014 R2 Hooded fullsuit which has been AWESOME in this transitional weather with colder air temps and “not so cold” water temps. Just enough rubber to keep you warm but super flexy and a great paddler!
We’re in the shop Thanksgiving Day until 3pm and then everyone’s going home to hang with families/friends and get their turkey on.
