Surfing

More often than not, surfing comps have to be put on hold due to lack of surf. This year, thanks to the offshore thump of Hurricane Igor, Cape Hatteras was pounded with surf that peaked at over 12 feet with a 15 second period.

We split off into two groups again today. The home team of Jon, Tiana, and Todd kicked back, relaxed pool side, explored and kited in the afternoon. The wind came up late but it came on strong. Jon said he got super litt on the 2010 Havoc 12m right out front. They all enjoyed the luxury of kiteboarding on the beach in front of the house.

We took a long bumpy road today out on the face of Mars. Sick scenery. Very drastic rock outcroppings plummet into the Pacific Ocean. There wasn’t supposed to be much in the way of surf, so we thought that it would be a perfect opportunity to make “surfboards mandatory”.

Where we are in Peru isn't exactly close to anything, but the travel was worth it with the first session! The REAL Peru group arrived in northern Peru with all of our gear, which was a miracle on its own. Out front of the resort there was no breeze, so the call to pack your 8m and 10m to go ride a place that was 20 minutes south, sounded a little off. We all followed the instructions, screwed in all the fins and straps and started our first journey….

This surfboard series showcases a new shortboard, hybrid and longboard regularly, so you can hear what the shaper has to say and also how the board works with every day surfers. Our first three boards in this series are the …Lost Rocket, the Takayama Scorpion and the Stretch Quad HPLB.

Robert August spent Memorial Day Weekend at REAL and Watermen's Retreat as part of the Endless Summer Weekend, May 28th - 31st. During this time, Robert was in the water every day surfing his "What I Ride" series of surfboards and his new "What I Paddle" standup paddleboard. In between, he was mingling with the crowd, talking story, signing autographs and giving tips on surfing, traveling and living "the life"!

The family at REAL is proud to announce the arrival of Misha Fern Nuzzo, born Tuesday morning, May 11th, 2010 at Nags Head Hospital.

We just received 20 new Rawson Custom Surfboards, shaped and glassed on the North Shore of Oahu. This order consists of single fin “Stingers”, Alien Swallowtail Quads, Impala Round and Swallowtails, and the new Rawson Escalades. We wanted to share the excitement of picking these up at the airport and getting to unwrap all 20 of them. It’s a pretty sick experience. Hopefully these videos come close and let you see some unbelievable boards as they come straight out of the box.
