The 2nd Annual Surfers’ Environmental Alliance SEAPaddle NYC will be held August 18, 2008. This event will showcase a 28 mile Paddle around New York City to benefit SEA and Autism Awareness.
Organized by Andrew Mencinsky and Darrick Doerner, the SEAPaddle NYC is in its second year and to date has been a huge success raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for for SEA’s environmental projects and several Autism charities.
This years event will feature standup and prone paddlers flying in from all over the globe, including such legendary watermen as Gerry Lopez, Darrick Doerner, Chris Malloy and Joel Tudor, along with music personalities, actors and environmental activists. The event is capped at 100 participants and is an invitation only event.
REAL Watersports and Jimmy Lewis are proud to be official sponsors of the event, providing 20 Jimmy Lewis Standup Paddleboards for many of the participants flying in from all over the world, and also in having 3 of our team paddling in the event.
The boards that will be used for the event are the Jimmy Lewis 12’6” Distance, the Jimmy Lewis All Around 11’0 and 10’6”.
Trip Forman and Zack Johnson have been training to get ready for the event, first by paddling the 18 miles of the Charles River, then by paddling the Pamlico Sound and Atlantic Ocean, surrounding Cape Hatteras, often at distances exceeding 16 miles.
REAL Teamrider Scott Bradley has been training for SEAPaddle NYC on Long Island, NY and also participated in last year's event.
The 28 mile Paddle starts at the Brooklyn Bridge at 9am, and heads north up the East River turns the corner at the north end of Manhattan and comes south on the Hudson River totaling 28 miles.
It is SEA and the Autism charities’ goal to raise $300,000 in donations and corporate sponsorships. 50% of the proceeds will support Surfers' Environmental Alliance’s work to preserve beach ecology and coastal habitats. SEA is working on projects that help protect recreational surf breaks and help Federal, State and local governments create alternative storm mitigation solutions that are cost effective and ecologically sound.

Autism Speaks: At Autism Speaks, the goal is to change the future for all who struggle with autism spectrum disorders.
Autism Family Services of NJ (AFSNJ) has been hosting a great event called the Beach Bash. This event is FREE and is open to families living with a child with Autism in NJ.
New Jersey’s Center for Outreach and Services for the Autism Community (COSAC): COSAC is a nonprofit agency providing information and advocacy, services, family and professional education and consultation.
