What we like:
This board is easy to surf well in a wide range of conditions. You can size it at your height and have the easiest shortboard you’ve ever ridden. For performance surfing you can go up to 6” shorter and still have enough rail and drive to really motor. The increased nose rocker is really nice on late drop and bowly waves. The ability to have only one hybrid in your quiver AND cover overhead thru most grovel conditions is pretty clutch. The original Rocket only did that under the feet of Gorkin and company. The smooth outline and rocker just scream I want to surf everything! (after surfing it in everything, it’s not an exaggeration)
What we don’t like:
Kind of hard to find something you don’t like on this board. It lost a bit of snap off the top with the flatter tail rocker, but not nearly as much as you would think thanks to the bump wing outline. It would be nice if they standardized the fin configuration to either 3 or 5, but not both, as that often confuses surfers. The V2 performs incredibly as a tri throughout its range, so the need for 5 fins and the ability to run it quad isn’t as necessary as some shapes.
Why you want the V2 Rocket:
Hybrids are a ton of fun to surf at any level from Joe to Pro. The V2 is one of the best hybrids out there with a really wide range of use.
The V2 has a bit less tail rocker, with less concave through the fins, which creates a faster rail line under foot. I actually deepened the concave out of the tail as well. The soft wing helps retain quick redirection off the top and bottom… and lend more control in the bowl. To tell you the truth, I moved the points of the diamond up a bit and made the angle closer to the Stealth tail, but haven’t finalized this 100%. The nose rocker is bent up more in the last 12″ (to balance the lower tail rocker and keep from poking) and the concave is brought further forward (to compensate for more nose rocker and also further elongate the rail line for more front foot drive) to help with even faster out of the gates rides. The tail is sculpted in a more pronounced way, adding a touch of double concave under the rear foot, as well as a low, square and boxy tail rail. I also made the nose a touch wider in the 12-18” mark.
Overall, an easier board to ride for an average surfer in sub par waves. It has more down the line drive and a bit less skateboard kick tail feel. The Rocket was one of the most popular boards around the world in the last 5 years… one of the most well known and knocked off surfboard models in recent memory. It obviously has merit and worked well for thousands of surfers, but there is always room for improvement. I used the feedback from the average Joe to update and refine what was not broken. The original Rocket will always be available from us as well. This doesn’t replace the Rocket – it compliments it.

With Hydroflex Supercharger Technology, the flex of the board can be adjusted by increasing or decreasing the amount of compressed air within the surfboard. The board comes complete with an adapter and pump that connect to a valve on the board. By connecting the adaptor and pump to the valve, you can pump compressed air into, thus stiffening, the board… giving it less flex. To allow the board to have more flex, you simply press down on the needle in the valve with your finger to release air out. This allows the surfer to find their own optimal level of flex for the conditions, as opposed to boards that do not feature adjustable flex. A fringe benefit is that the outward pressure expels any water that might otherwise be absorbed if the board is dinged or cracked in the water. The boards are made from stringer-less EPS blanks and epoxy resin, but with a patented 3 dimensional glassing. The glassing anchors the fiberglass and epoxy resin laminate into the foam core, creating a root like structure, which greatly increases bonding strength and prevents delaminating.
