Liquid Force

Description

The NRG 2013 got a high performance face lift, and Liquid Force made this kite water relaunch better at the same time.
LF made a bunch of small corrections to the 2013 NRG that made huge performance gains. The direct connect trailing edge bridle offers reliable relaunch and snappy turning speed. You will find the NRG has a lot of wind range per kite size and heaps of low end power. Most people are riding the NRG one kite size down because they can.

What we like:
We have never seen a Liquid Force kite like this come to market. They broke their addiction to low aspect wake style kites and finally made a kite with a performance turn, low end grunt, and max air time. The best part is that the NRG relaunches as easily as the Envy. Two other stand out characteristics are how easily the NRG goes upwind and how much wind range these kites have. We also found that the power band has a really smooth on/off delivery.

What we don't like:
The NRG delivers a lot of power and if you don't have the kite trimmed properly you can get a big power surge when you unhook. This is easily corrected by pulling an inch or two of depower before unhooking. As with the other LF kites, the quality of the kite construction is second to none, but the bag suffers from junky zippers and side compression straps.

Why you want the 2013 NRG:
A high performance kite that is easy to ride is very hard to find because they tend to be unstable or too twitchy. Once every few years a good one comes along and for 2013 the NRG is that kite. Smooth power band, big airs, over head kite stability, and upwind performance will let you feel like one of the top pros at the Triple-S even if you are just a weekend warrior.

Liquid Force NRG Review By Matt Nuzzo

With no center strut on the NRG, the center of the kite is unobstructed to the wind and creates raw power. The 2013 NRG has balls but still remains easy to use. I am stoked with how easily it water relaunches too. The front bridle can hang up on the wing tip in the most extreme cases, but that is pretty rare.

REAL Pro Tip:

Don't use the Light Wind Setting on the trailing edge attachment. It will add too much back line tension and cause the NRG to back stall.

  1. If you want to Boost.....here is the answer!

by Toby Diggens on April 15, 2013

Before you rip the kite over your head and jump into the stratosphere then you have to tilt your head back and let out a decent howl as this kite will take your breath away when you realise that a 20 foot jump is actually a 40 footer!!

When you land you are going to speechless. Tack back to where you started and REPEAT for maximum pleasure.

Then REPEAT again..... and again....and again... You get the picture.
  2. First time on the NRG

by Jason on March 17, 2013

Just got off the water after trying out the new 2013 NRG. I have to say it was definitely a lot of fun!

It was a new experience for me riding a four strut kite with more of a "wing" profile. The kite sits higher in the wind window and in my opinion, the design allows for less bar pressure which is very nice during those all-day sessions.

The thing I enjoyed most about the kite was how well it boosts! I was out on the 10m and was flying high with tons of hang time.

My only complaint is a bit of loss of power through my transitions. I felt like I was stalling out a bit as I passed the kite from one side of the window to the other.

Overall I would say the NRG is a great kite for boosting big with some awesome graphics!
  3. Above and beyond

by Austin Waclo on March 14, 2013

Nothing to say but good things about this kite. Excellent upwind, amazing range and an unbelievable amount of hangtime. From just free riding to going huge this kite is perfect.
  4. A totally redesigned kite for 2013

by Julien Kepski on November 7, 2012

For 2013 Liquid Force decided to please us with a redesigned from the ground up NRG. Just like all the 2013 LF kites the graphics are amazing, but the main and most important changes are a direct connection on the back lines (no more pullies on the back bridles) The shape of the wing tips has been redesigned too making the kite turn faster but also making the relaunch way easier than last year. You also keep the same advantages you had on the 2011 which are incredible upwind ability and huge boosts !!!! That is why I made it my quiver for this winter ! ! !
  5. surpassed all expectations

by Stellato - REAL Lesson Center on October 8, 2012

    Size tested: 8M
    Rider 175lbs
    Conditions: 18-25mph side-on, 5-6ft surf, heavy current

I can not say enough good things about the new 2013 NRG. The 2012 NRG was one of my favorite kites in both the small and larger light wind sizes. The improvements to the 2013 NRG are numerous and fantastic!

The move to less bridle and direct rear connections make the kite simple and easy to set up, with a responsive direct bar feel. The new colorways look great (especially the orange!) and you can tell there is some improved geometry in the shape of the kite.

The kite had exceptional power for its size allowing me to ride an 8M when I would have been on a 10-11M in other models. The kite screams upwind and has fantastic power that is easy to access. Sits in a nice part of the wind window with great upwind performance. The kite also has great drift and will also drift downwind or down the line when unhooked, just waiting for you to carve back around and restore line tension. I felt like the kite really allowed me to carve against the kite and up the more vertical faces of waves even in the side-on conditions.

Simplicity makes the kite easy to enjoy: simple 4 struts easy to pump up and pack down. Simple bridling makes setup easy and bar-feel fantastic. The incredible range means you can simply bring less kites to the beach. Simply one of the best kites on the market today!
  6. Rediculous

by Karl Jacob on August 15, 2012

The new NRG is freaking ridiculous. The jumps on this kite were the biggest I have had. The thing has tons of boost. It feels like it is much more powered up too.

I love the added performance over the 2012. I really liked the 2012 NRG and was expecting small improvements. What I got with the 2013 was a lot more power and big boosts.

    Nice work Liquid Force!
