What we like:
The Dakine Pyro provides a lot of support and is really comfortable once it breaks in. The dual straps on each side ensure that you are locked into the harness once you crank it on. There is zero slippage like you often see from single strap systems. The Dakine product is really well made and out lasts any other harness on the market.

What we don't like:
The Pyro feels a bit stiff when you first try it on. It takes a few sessions in the water to fully break in. The dual point compression straps take more time to crank down than a single point harness. As with most harnesses, these straps are pretty long so the flop around in the wind while you are riding.

Why you want the Dakine Pyro:
The Dakine Pyro is a clean harness that will last you for a long time. When you crank it down, you know this harness is secure and won't false release or leave your back crying at the end of the session.

Customer Reviews

  1. Very enjoyable

by Jason on March 19, 2013

I just got a chance to try out the 2013 Pyro the other day. It was the first time I have been on the Pyro since the 2009 model. The 2013 model has improved leaps and bounds since the last time I tried the Pyro out.

The harness offered great support all-around and was very comfortable. When you crank down on the straps you can really feel the reinforcement in your lumbar region.

My only nit of advice is to make sure you have someone explain how the harness works to you or thoroughly read the manual. I did not and found that by not installing the red spreader bar clip it makes it very easy for the spreader bar to come lose.

That aside the harness is very comfortable, offers a great amount of support, and has some very awesome graphics to boot!
  2. Max Support and Super Reliable

by Nuzzi on January 25, 2013

The Pyro is the standard for support in a harness. It is stiff for the first couple sessions, but when it breaks in there is not a harness that give you as much back support. My back is messed up from when I was a kid, so this means a lot to me.

The strap system locks down and you never have to think about it slipping or false releasing on you.

The Pyro is really durable. It last longer than any harness I have ever owned.

I use two harnesses. I use the Pyro for max support and the Majestic for lots of padding.
